Memories of Life in Downers
Grove
Fourth of July and the Bicentennial
The Bicentennial
During the United States bicentennial, we washed the
fire hydrant on our street corner and my children painted
it like a Civil War soldier. It was a great project
and a joy to see all the "soldiers" through
out the village. I also won the "Best Decorated
Cookie" and the "Best Apple Pie" contest
that was held in the restored general store on Grove
Street and volunteered in the store to tell the history
of the store to all who visited. Jan Donda |
