Net-Tips - Using the Help Feature for Microsoft Products

Whether you are using Microsoft Word, Excel, Access or PowerPoint, try the following sources for help.

Ask for Help Icon

Look for the blue circular button with a question mark located at the upper right hand corner of each of the Microsoft Office 2007 programs (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint). Press F1 or click on the icon to open the Help window. Once the Help window opened, you can type keywords into the search box and navigate in a similar way to Internet Explorer in order to find the help topic you are looking for, or you can simply browse the list of topics provided below the search box.

Screen Tips

For a brief explanation of an icon’s name and function, rest the mouse pointer over the icon for a couple of seconds and a small window will appear.

Get Online Help

If you are connected to the Internet, you can go online to browse or search for the most up-to-date help, templates, training, and other online content.

For Further Assistance

For further assistance on Microsoft Office products, as well as many other computer programs, you may wish to consult some of the many books available at the library. The librarians at the Reference Desk can show you where these books are located.
