Navy Pier Aerial View
(color photograph)
Acquired: 1999; Location: Second Floor, Reference Study Room
Chicago native Bruce Heinrich began his involvement with photography at age fourteen and has worked in the field ever since. He also collects old photographs documenting beautiful Chicago. His color aerial view of Navy Pier captures the hustle and bustle and beauty of Chicagos lakefront. The Ferris wheel reaches skyward as crowds gather to enjoy a bright summer day. Tour boats pass by, while out on Lake Michigan, sailboats dot the horizon. The photo was taken from a helicopter as Heinrich dangled out an open door secured by a large seat belt with the buckle taped shut! He used a medium-large format camera and high-speed film.
