Edward Daniel

DeBuffet Sculpture
Franklin Street Bridge
Harold Washington Library
(black and white photographs)
Acquired: 1999; Location: Second Floor, Conference Room

Through the creative use of his lens, Chicago photographer Edward Daniel presents three architecturally arresting views of popular Chicago landmarks. The Franklin Street Bridge is awash in winter—reflecting typical Chicago weather. Thick, abstract curves of Jean DuBuffet’s Monument with Standing Beast contrast and frame the geometric lines of the skyscraper in the background. Roof ornamentation depicting an owl perched atop the Harold Washington Public Library building provides the perfect foil to the massive granite and brick structure. Daniel began documenting Chicago street scenes over twenty years ago and now works on commercial assignments and art photography. His works have been published in various periodicals and he has exhibited at galleries in Illinois, Michigan, and Utah.
