Centennial Quilt
Acquired: 1991
Location: Junior Room
Created in honor of the 100th birthday of the library,
the Centennial Quilt transforms the magic of books into
unforgettable visual images. It contains squares of original
artwork supplied by renowned children's illustrators
and authors who illustrate their own books. The library
sent blank muslin squares to illustrators throughout the
country, along with a request to illustrate the square
with a design of their choice and then return it to the
library. Twenty-nine squares arrived and were joined by
a Centennial square created by staff artist Melody A. Danley.
Talented members of the Faithful Circle Quilters Guild
then devoted several months to the project, designing the
color scheme and assembling the quilt from the squares
provided.
