Fourth of July and the Bicentennial

The Bicentennial
During the United States bicentennial, we washed the fire hydrant on our street corner and my children painted it like a Civil War soldier. It was a great project and a joy to see all the “soldiers” through out the village. I also won the “Best Decorated Cookie” and the “Best Apple Pie” contest that was held in the restored general store on Grove Street and volunteered in the store to tell the history of the store to all who visited.

The Parade
One of my fondest memories is when I saw the preparation of the 2006 July 4th Parade. I was train-watching that day. There was not much action, so I looked around at the parade preparation. I met a newsman who asked me about my camera. I think that’s a fond memory.
